Process

Originally, this was intended to be some sort of homage to the Pink Floyd album "The dark side of the moon". I always wanted to use my character Yume for that, but I wasn't sure how to make it until I remembered the song "Eclipse". It's not my favorite song from the album, but it gave me the idea of what to do for the picture. The final result turned out to be something pretty different, but I still wanted to keep the title as a reference. I was also inspired by this picture, by TeaKitsune The Messenger by TeaKitsune and wanted to try something similar for the tails.

It's the biggest acrylic painting I've ever done and it surely taught me a lot of things about my limited skills with the media. I'm not completely satisfied, but at least it's pretty close to what I had in mind. I originally wanted this to be crazier with the paint, but this was so difficult to do I became too worried of messing it up, so I decided to play safe for this time and do what I could. Acryllics are fun, but this was too big for my abilities, so I couldn't mix the colors with ease. My cat also climbed into the picture while the paint was still fresh and ruined a part of the sky near the eclipse, I did the best I could to fix that, but the little incident took me about two extra hours. An interesting experiment that could make me want re-try oil paint for my next painting...but maybe later, because this kind of traditional artwork can be a little expensive ^^;

I wanted to post this yesterday, considering everything was made in 2016 from October to December...but I'm afraid I couldn't make it on time.
Either way, I still wish you a happy new year!

Acryllic on canvas, 100 x 50 cm
